Boston, Mass – This year, mom will likely pass on flowers and chocolate. This Mother’s Day (May 8th) trend experts predict a spike in sales for e-readers and e-reader accessories. According to the Yankee Group, the e-reader industry will sell around 72 million units and expect a market growth of $8.2 billion by 2014. Amazon.com boasts the Kindle as its number one bestselling item for two years running. It’s also the most-wished-for, most-gifted, and has the most 5-star reviews of any product on Amazon. And retailers nationwide, like Barnes & Noble, Borders, Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Staples and Office Depot, as well as a number online retailers such as Amazon are stocking up on e-reader accessories just in time for Mother’s Day. I love my ebook reader because it makes my life simpler.

How does it make it simpler, you say? Let me tell you all the cool things it does.

1. I can read at the beach and my book doesn’t get all icky from the sunscreen on my hands (it’s easy to clean the Kindle)
2. I never have to search for the last page I was on
3. I can read three books at a time and know exactly where I am on each one (actually, I don’t have to know where I am, the Kindle remembers)
4. If the book I’m reading is boring, I can switch to any other book in my library
5. I can make notes in the margins
6. I can bookmark passages
7. And I can review my notes and bookmarks in a list
8. I can buy books while sitting on a beach  in St. Martin and start reading them in one minute
9. I can download PDFs and Word documents from my computer and read them on my Kindle (saves me from sitting in front of my computer and I can get work done on the beach)
10. I can let my friends know about the great book I’m reading on Facebook and Twitter
11. I don’t have to carry a separate dictionary because it’s built in
12. I don’t have to worry about charging it on vacation because the battery lasts for 2 weeks (no chargers to leave in the hotel room)
13. I can keep reading my great book in the car because the Kindle can read out loud to me (like books on tape)

Updating Facebook

An ebook reader is a great piece of technology to have. You can carry around all your books, you can buy new books and it saves you a lot of money.

But the newest feature added to the Kindle ebook reader is ability to update Facebook and Twitter.

Now I don’t know about you, but that is an awesome feature.

I love to update my friends on the books I’m reading.

Sometimes I find great passages I would like to share.

And now I can do that.

(Well, actually, not yet) According to Amazon, the new software update will be rolled out during  May 2010. And the best thing is, you don’t have to do anything to get the update. Your Kindle will automatically be updated.

So I’ve been checking my little ebook reader… sad to report, no update as of yet.

Here are a couple of other features included in the update.

• sort your books and documents into collections to make them easier to find
• zoom and pan pdf documents to easily see small print or tables
• add a password to prevent anyone from using your ebook reader without permission
• more fonts that make reading easier

Ebook readers seem to be the accessory of choice. If you don’t have and ebook reader, you are behind the times. Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Sony and even Macintosh has one. I did a lot of research before buying the Kindle ebook reader.

Kindle

And I am sooo happy.

I had been looking for an ebook reader for some time and did tons of research before I purchased. I talked to my friends and family. And the Kindle was the most popular ebook reader.

My mom is not technically inclined, and she needed an ebook reader that was a breeze to use. She said she was using the Kindle within 5 minutes of taking it out of the box.

Nook

Then I went to Barnes and Noble to check out their ebook reader.

It was a teensy bit heavier. Now you might think that wasn’t a big deal. But I had done some reading on my mom’s Kindle. And holding it for a long time can make it a little heavy. But not so much as to be a deal breaker.

But I certainly didn’t want anything heavier. And I checked out Barnes and Noble’s battery life. Amazon’s ebook reader was the clear winner.

And the Nook can’t open Microsoft Word documents. I get a lot of work stuff that I review at home I needed an ebook reader that let’s me plop down in a chair.

The one thing I did like about the Nook was the book lending feature. You can lend a book to your friend by emailing it to them. It leaves your ‘library’ for 2 weeks and goes to their library.

Then it automatically returns to you after 2 weeks.

The Results

But I ultimately decided on the Kindle ebook reader because Amazon is such a big company. The amount of books they offer is growing so fast.

And I got my Kindle last week and I’m loving it. I’m a real book lover. I thought I would miss holding a book. But it’s so exciting having all my books with me and I can switch from one to the next in an instant.

So do yourself a favor and get a Kindle. (Or get one for your spouse or your mom) I promise you, you’ll absolutely love it.

An ebook reader was my number one wish for Mother’s Day. I love books and reading and was hoping that my family remembered.

I have to admit. I was resistant at first. Books have an enormous value to me. And I was concerned that I would miss out holding the book.

But a couple of my friends have Kindles and Nooks and I got to play with them a little bit. And I quickly realized I was missing out by not having an ebook reader.

Being able to carry all your books with you? Fantastic! Having the ebook reader remember where I was in each book? Terrific! Being able to get a new book in a minute? Unbelievable! Paying half price or less for a book? Phenomenal!

What was I waiting for?

So I told my family that I wanted a Kindle for Mother’s Day. And I knew they had bought one for me.

I got an email from Amazon asking if I wanted to buy some books before my Kindle arrived. Apparently they bought the Kindle on my Amazon account.

Wow! I could order books before my Kindle even arrived!

So I picked out a couple, and even ordered a free one!

Then, when I opened the box and turned it on, all my books were already there.

Now, if you buy it on your account to give to someone as a gift… they just have to unlink it from your account and link it to their account.

Easy peasy!

So for those of you holding out on buying an ebook reader. Now’s the time to do it. You’ll love it! I know it!
